Monster Amps Pix Thread

8 years 5 months ago - 8 years 5 months ago #1 by Tezzating
I came across these thought I'd share.. will throw up some more pix once I get home (Crown 6k etc)..

First, Hifonics Maxximus.. As if its not just 2x Cyclops in one heatsink

Next is the Harrison Labs "Drag Queen".. this thing is full of batteries and capacitors, with a built in tone generator. Takes 60 minutes to recharge off a 60A alternator, makes "20,000WRMS !". Realistically, its like plugging your woofer into the mains. I believe it only runs for 30 seconds at a time. It was made for a year MAYBE.. I think it was actually built as a joke.

SPL Dynamics D14k "surfboard"

Another Harrison Labs amp, the "audio engine".. I dont know anything about this unit just providing it for reference sake.

Kickers answer (2 years too late) to the JBL Crown A6000GTi.. but its rated for 10,000WRMS and its a serious looking piece of kit

This is the Hertz 14k I think ?

And this is the American Bass VFL-1000.1. 1000 = 1000 amps current draw.. as if its not a pair of monos with a common end cap.

Nice thread.

I'll have to dig up some pics of my BPX's and see if I have any of DD's Z series amps.

I will see your RF-T2500D and raise you a SoundStream Tarantula XXX 10,000

And its not a very pretty internal shot.. God I hate flying leads inside an amp, so sloppy.

Wont fit too many of those in rex.....well, i suppose you wouldnt need too many

That RF amp sounds to me like it has a regulated power supply (like the JBL amps?)

The T2500-1bdCP is based on the legendary T2500-1bd amplifier design with a proprietary "Constant Power" configuration that delivers up to 25% more power (Watts) across all impedance loads.

Still, 2500 clean watts x 4 would equal a few magical decibels i'd say.....now to some subs to suit:

15" Dual 2 ohm, 1200wrms and a 4" coil, but only 8.6kg of magnet and a sensitivity of 86db. :(

Edit, the 12s look beefier again with the 4" coil and a tad smaller magnet at 8.3kg:

Real subs don't have plastic crap hanging off their motors.

The JBL's were regulated power supply so delivered similar power at 11V as they did at 14V.

They also ran very high voltage on the output and low current compared to contemporary models, hence their output at 4ohm was similar to their 1ohm.. but you needed to rewire the amps and switch the circuits to run low impedances, which dropped the voltage output and increased the current.

Some amps have regulated outputs too.. the JBL 1200's did/do. They have the same power output at 1ohm as 2ohm.

Manufacturers dont usually go in for regulated power supplies cos it makes the amps a lot more expensive.. Zapco & JBL Crown series for example. You could get similar power to them for half the price or less, so a lot of people did :P I like regulated power when you have limited batteries ;).
